Celebrating 125 Years!

CELEBRATING 125 YEARS!

You might know us now as wilson/ryan/grose, but we actually weren't founded by a Wilson, Ryan or a Grose! 

Arthur Hobbs was our founding father, opening the office of Unmack, Fox & Hobbs on 28 August 1895.

In 1901 two new partners joined the firm - Lachlan Chisholm Wilson and William Samuel Buchanan - and the firm changed its name to Hobbs, Wilson and Buchanan. 

Wilson was not only a key figure in the history of our firm, but also in Australian military history, leading a distinguished military career after leaving Townsville in 1912. 

In 1909 Guy Pennefather Ryan joined the firm as partner, and in 1911 we became Hobbs, Wilson & Ryan.

Around 1910 Agnes McWhinney joined the firm, and in 1915 she became the first woman in Queensland to be admitted as a solicitor, cementing herself as a key historical figure of the firm. 

On 1 August 1921 Arthur Grose became a partner of the firm, and on 5 August 1921 a new name was registered for our firm - Wilson, Ryan & Grose.  We now hold one of the oldest registered names of any law firm in Townsville, with a history we are proud of. 

We've come a long way over 125 years, and we can't wait for 125 more.
