More Information
John is a highly experienced construction law Partner who has played pivotal roles in significant construction projects and developments throughout Queensland.
For more than 30 years, John has advised clients in the construction industry – from local governments and government organisations through to private contractors and large construction companies – on major project delivery, tendering, contract drafting and administration and dispute resolution.
He advises on all aspects of infrastructure delivery – acting for contractors, consultants and sub-contractors at both the ‘front end’ and ‘back end’ of major construction projects. He also has considerable experience in project development and administration.
John is also experienced acting as a probity auditor and advises on all aspects of probity and governance in tender and procurement processes. This includes drafting probity plans and reports, desktop probity and governance reviews, and advice on legislative procurement obligations.
John has always been interested and involved in the construction industry, choosing to work as an in-house lawyer at an international construction company and at Brisbane City Council to gain insights in this area. He enjoys the satisfaction of supporting a project from inception to completion, as well as seeing the tangible result of the construction itself.
Trusted by executive general managers, project managers and directors, consultants and superintendents – John is experienced working in multidisciplinary teams. He is widely recognised for his high level of expertise and ability to deliver projects on time and within budget. He is accessible and commercial, providing both the legal boundaries of an issue, as well as the commercial reality.
Holding multiple board positions, John is highly involved in the community and regularly hosts and attends functions and events relevant to his practice. He is the Company Secretary for NQ Dry Tropics, a Trustee of the Scartwater Education Trust, the Chair of Basketball Australia, and a member of the Board of Architects of Queensland. He is also a registered adjudicator under the Building Industry Fairness (Security of Payment) Act and is both GAICD and FGIA accredited.
